A year or so I started looking into the evidence-based research around gratitude. I learned a few things:
(1) our minds do better when we focus on one thing we’re thankful for and spend time meditating on the reasons we’re thankful (vs. 5 things you’re thankful for). As you reflect on a person or part of your life, the deep reflection cultivates a sense of joy, connection and thankfulness within you. So, I thought - how can I help people do this?
(2) And then - I learned that our gratitude increases if we write to people telling them why we are thankful for them (instead of just journaling) - and here’s the kicker - you don’t even have to send the letter to get the increased benefits to your brain! Something about imagining saying it to them or writing it to them, helps our brains form even MORE connection and gratitude. But then I thought - wouldn’t it be neat if we did share with them?
So I made Gratitude Cards - that help you focus on one person and think through all the reasons you’re thankful for them, and then share it with them! And everything else sort of evolved from there!
